    Nominations for the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards Announced

    EM Media Launch New Fund for Projects Promised Support by Screen East

    Following the insolvency of Screen East there is a gap in regional investment in film in the East of England region. With a limited amount of funding from the UK Film Council, EM Media is able to temporarily support a ring-fenced number of projects known to the UK Film Council and EM Media which had been given a commitment of funding from Screen East and which would have used funding provided to Screen East by the UK Film Council (from the Regional Investment Fund for England, Digital Film Archive Fund or Digital Shorts). This funding will be provided through a temporary EM Media East scheme.

    Icahn's Lionsgate Takeover Dealt Blow as Shareholders Elect All Lionsgate Nominees at AGM

    Lionsgate this week announced that, based on preliminary estimates provided by its proxy solicitor, shareholders have voted to elect all of the Company's director nominees, including its new independent nominee, Frank Giustra. The result of the meeting has dented Carl Icahn's proposed takeover of Lionsgate.  The Company issued the following statement:

    Will employees be entitled to an extra day's holiday on 29 April 2011?

    This will depend on each employee's contract of employment and any holiday policy you have. If employees are entitled to "x number of days plus public holidays" then you will need to provide employees with 29 April 2011 as an additional day's annual leave. If you require an employee to work on this day then you will need to follow your usual practice or policy regarding working on public holidays.

    New Skillset Health and Safety Framework for Film, Broadcast and Independent Production

    BBC Films Releases New Film Strategy as Trust Targets a Greater Awareness to Tax Payers

    BBC Films have released their new film strategy, providing an overview of BBC Films, other key players in the UK, BBC Films' main objectives and measures of success and its key priorities until the end of 2012/13.  The BBC Trust have also commented upon the review stating that BBC Films delivers great value to licence fee payers, but should develop greater awareness of its work, and ensure more impact when broadcasting its films on television, according to a report published by the BBC Trust today.

    Irish Film Board Remain Positive Over National Budget Cuts

    The capital budget for Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) has been announced as €16 million for 2011, which represents a 3% cut from the 2010 budget allocation. The administration budget has been reduced by 12.3% to €2,4 million, bringing the total budget cut for the IFB to 4.4%.

    ITV Announce 11% Increase in Revenue

    ITV has announced its latest financial figures this week, highlighted by a year-on-year 11% increase in revenue for the UK Broadcaster. This equates to a revenue of £1.45billion, which covers the first three quarters of 2010, with forecasts predicting that the strength of TV advertising will continue to the end of the year.
