    Winner of a combined 12 Oscar and BAFTA awards including Best Film at both. In romance drama ‘The Artist’, George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is a world-famous silent movie superstar. However, his illustrious career looks set to come to an abrupt end when talking pictures arrive, changing the face of cinema forever. At the same, Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo), a struggling young dancer, is catapulted into stardom thanks to her natural ability for the new medium. Filmed in black and white, without dialogue, ‘The Artist’ tells the story of what happens when they meet and share their dreams and ambitions.

    British comedy ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ follows a group of retirees who relocate to an Indian hotel and what they think will be a life of opulent leisure, only to find reality doesn't quite match the advertising. However, they soon fall for the hotel’s faded charms and discover newfound happiness through the people they are with, rather than the luxury they were expecting. From director John Madden (‘Shakespeare in Love’), ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ features a stellar British cast including Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Maggie Smith.

  • The Future of Independent British Films - A Panel Discussion

    Production Guild members are invited to a panel discussion entitled ‘The Future of Independent British Films’ on Monday 23rd April, 7pm at BAFTA.

    Co-hosted by The Production Guild and Directors UK, we will be bringing together the production community and UK directors to discuss where the future lies for British independent films.

    In light of the changing environment for independent films, and pending responses from the DCMS and BFI to The Film Policy Review, you are invited to join the debate with our distinguished panel of leading industry figures  where we will be getting to the heart of the key issues facing UK filmmakers.

    It’s the summer of 1979 and a group of friends in a small Ohio town have on embarked on a project to make a super 8 movie. However during filming, they witness a catastrophic train crash and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly afterwards, unusual disappearances and strange things begin to occur in town. But when the local Deputy steps in to investigate these disturbing events, the truth turns out to be something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

  • Understanding the UK Bribery Act 2010 - Exclusive Free PG Member Seminar

    We're delighted to invite you to the exclusive PG Member Seminar, 'UNDERSTANDING THE BRIBERY ACT 2010', which we are hosting alongside leading advisors in corporate and commercial law, SJ Berwin.     The UK Bribery Act 2010 applies to individuals and companies, both in the UK and working overseas provided they have some connection to the UK. It is a criminal offence for an individual to offer, give or receive a bribe. It is also a corporate offence if a business is found to have failed to prevent bribery.

    What does it mean for the TV and Film Industry?
    As a Producer or Line Producer you are responsible for ensuring your crew understand and comply with the Bribery Act 2010. As a 1st AD, Location Manager, Production Manager you are at risk of falling foul of The Bribery Act 2010 due to the everyday nature of film and TV production. This is a potentially high risk piece of legislation and one that you need to be aware of, without the knowledge you leave yourself exposed. Please don't be the one that didn't have time to understand the legislation. The Serious Fraud Office is investigating a number of cases and some have already faced prosecution / imprisonment.

The film examines his relationship with his two daughters as he decides whether or not to sell the land that’s kept the family rich since they were awarded it by Hawaiian royalty hundreds of years previously.

  • 'MANAGED MIGRATION' - Exclusive Free PG Member Seminar

    This exclusive PG Members Only Seminar aims to deliver an overview of the current UKBA system for bringing non EU cast and crew into the UK for Film and Television productions. Based on the Winner of the Orange Prize for Fiction, ‘We Need to Talk About Kevin’ is an emotional thriller from acclaimed filmmaker Lynne Ramsay.

    Directed by Guy Ritchie, Robert Downey Jr. returns as the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes, with Jude Law once again at his side as Dr. Watson.     Nuns knickers? Matte Box? Remote Focus, Wildcat desert Dolly???? What does it all mean.....................?

    Following on from last year's very popular camera familiarisation day for PG members we are pleased to be able to repeat the opportunity to demystify camera and grip equipment. This is a great chance for production and accounts personnel to understand and see the equipment that is discussed, booked, transported, budgeted on a daily basis. This one day event will:-

    • Introduce you to the Panvision team.
    • Give you an overview of what a standard camera & grip package is, why specific pieces are needed, what are the luxury items, which are the costly items are.
    • Give an Overview of specialist equipment, 3D rigs and video playback
    • Demonsrate how and why equipment is tested.
    • Explain how best to manage consumables.
    • Share advice from the Panavision team of how to make your production run smoothly for the camera and grip department.
    • And of course a chance to ask all the questions that you never had the time to ask!!

    THE RESCUERS, the latest film from Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Michael King, uncovers the largely unknown stories of 13 heroic and courageous diplomats who, at tremendous personal cost, saved tens of thousands of Jews during World War II. The film follows Stephanie Nyombayire, a young Rwandan anti-genocide activist who lost 100 members of her family in the Rwandan Genocide of the 1990s, and Sir Martin Gilbert, the renowned 20th century and Holocaust historian, as they travel across 15 countries and three continents interviewing survivors and descendants of the diplomats. Nyombayire and Gilbert explore and contemplate the past in a quest, in part, to understand what should be done to stop the ongoing genocide in Darfur and elsewhere.

    Join fellow Line Producers and Location Managers for a tour of Wimbledon Studios facilities and standing sets, we have 12 spaces available in the morning session starting at 11am and the afternoon session starting at 2pm. Lunch will be provided for both parties in the Wimbledon Studio cafeteria at 1pm.

    Wimbledon Film Studios can provide affordable production offices, standing sets include: forensic lab, intensive care unit, kitchen, lifts / elevators, locker rooms, morgue, pub, train, toilets, vaults and a street set. Facilities include HD avid suites, costume store, art dept facilities, construction workshop, props stores, make up and costume rooms, dressing rooms, four stages and available parking. Located in South West London, 6 mins from South Wimbledon Station, it's well worth a visit.

  • AMPS Digital Cinema Guild Member Screening - BALLAST (With Q&A with DoP, Lol Crawley)

    As you may have seen AMPS have kindly organised a new series of free screenings based in Soho for Guild Members. The AMPS screenings will run on the second Monday of each month and will therefore not clash with the current Joint Guild Screenings held at Pinewood Studios.  (The Joint Guild Screenings are currently on the usual summer break and will begin again on Monday 5th September 2011)  Please note that places must be booked directly through AMPS at the link found at the bottom of this page.  The other notable difference is that AMPS will welcome two guests along with each Guild Member although all places must be booked through the booking link.  Tickets are also limited for these screenings, so please do book early to avoid disappointment.  The booking page will usually tell you how many tickets are still available.

  • 'De-mystifying 3D' Exclusive Vision 3 Invite to PG Members

    As an increasing number of films shot in the UK go 3D this year. The Production Guild and Vision 3 announce a day of open Surgeries - that will aim to directly answer your questions about budgeting and scheduling Stereoscopic Feature Film and Television projects.

    Sharing their experiences of 3D projects ranging from 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' to 'David Attenborough's Flying Monsters', Adam May and Natalie Samson of Vision 3 will explain the necessary additional crew, equipment requirements, post production workflows and important shooting considerations for low budget to studio financed 3D Feature Films and the emerging 3D TV Market.

    The sessions will also discuss shooting 3D for documentary and highlight the key differences producing 3D for television, explain how the 3DTV landscape is currently taking shape and how to effectively bring 3D to the home.

    Vision 3 are the UK's leading 3D Production Specialists, and have supplied stereoscopic production expertise and 3D crew in 2010 for UK projects including 'Horrid Henry', 'TT3D' and in 2011 the forthcoming 'Clash of the Titans 2' and 'Jack the Giant Killer'.

    The Surgeries will be held as a series of small group, one hour sessions with Adam and Natalie - with the aim to provide a forum to answer specific production questions and share new innovations and techniques for reducing costs and streamlining productions.

    Chloe Grace Moretz stars as Abby, a secretive 12-year old girl, who moves next door to Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Road). Owen is a social outcast who is viciously bullied at school and in his loneliness, forms a profound bond with his new neighbour. Owen can’t help noticing that Abby is like no one he has ever met before. As a string of grisly murders occupy the town, Owen has to confront the reality that this seemingly innocent girl is really a savage vampire.

    PG Open Drinks Networking Evening, Supported by Pinewood Studios

    The popular PG Open Drinks Networking Evening will be supported by Pinewood Studios in October and should once again prove to be a great night to catch up with other friends and members, whilst having some drinks and nibbles.

    The October Drinks will take place at Blanca Corner, Jewel Bar, 4-6 Glasshouse Street, London, W1B 5DQ.

    Pinewood will be presenting Pinewood Studio Berlin Film Services.

    The latest exclusive PG member only event will see Guy Sheppard of leading media lawyers, Wiggin LLP, hosting a seminar exploring ways in which producers can avoid legal costs becoming excessive. 

    Keeping deals simple, getting the right deal for the right cast member, having a clean chain of title, clearing rights, getting the best out of trade bodies such as the Guild and PACT, closing the commercial terms for finance and for distribution deals will all be under discussion.

    Guy regularly advises Hollywood Studios, financiers and independent producers on aspects of film and television financing and production. Most recently he has worked with Twentieth Century Fox on feature films including "The A-Team", with Endemol in connection with its acquisition of Tiger Aspect, with Stephen Woolley's Number 9 Films on the forthcoming "Made in Dagenham" and for the UK producers of Sundance selections "Moon" and "Unmade Beds" and award-winning micro-budget productions "Shifty" and "Sounds Like Teen Spirit". Guy also sits as an advisor to the Board of the International Screenwriters' Festival, is a member of the Audit Committee of PACT and is a regular speaker at industry events, including recent invitations to speak at the Seville International Film Festival and a media financing conference in Singapore

    Whilst always providing a wonderful day out for attendees, this annual event also importantly collects proceeds for The Cinema & Television Benevolent Fund (CTBF) who provide invaluable support for thousands of industry workers every year.   • Heartbreaker (L'arnacoeur) - The Joint Guilds' Evening Screening

    The Joint Guilds' Evening Screenings continue with HEARTBREAKER (L'arnacoeur) (CERT. 15 - 104 MINS) on Monday 4th October 2010 at Theatre 7, Pinewood Studios. The screening begins at 8pm.

    A French production by Pascal Chaumeil, set in Monaco. It tells the story of Alex, his sister and her husband who run a business that breaks up relationships. They are hired by a rich man to break up the wedding of his daughter, however the couple seem madly in love and they only have one week to complete their task.

    PG Members can catch up with friends, Members and Affiliates with a few drinks and nibbles as Deluxe Group companies Rushes and Deluxe 142 invite you to PG Open Drinks at Rushes Post Production, 66 Old Compton Street. London. W1D 4UH on Monday 7th March from 6.15pm to 9.30pm.

    Rushes will host a drinks reception on their roof deck venue, while creative VFX team of Jonathan Privett, Paul Hannaford and Matt Turner will carry out some informal demo's, on the subject of 'Affordable VFX'.

  • AMPS Digital Cinema Guild Member Screening - WAR HORSE

    Directed by Steven Spielberg’s, a tale of loyalty, hope and tenacity set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War. “War Horse” begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse and a young man, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land.
